Degrees for AiA students

Angelica Katama 1st in Architecture

Paulina Makatu 2nd in Education

Angelica Katama

When his brother died in 1995 Fr Simeon Katama asked his friends in Ashtead to help support the two little girls, Angelica and her sister Rose. This led to the establishing of Action in Africa two years later. Rose was sponsored until she finished her education at the end of Secondary school but Angelica continued, going on to Dar Es Salaam university to study Architecture. In 2011 she graduated with a top degree. We are indeed proud that the first student sponsored by Action in Africa at the very beginning of her education should finish with a First.

Paulina Makatu

Paulina in the classroomPaulina was employed by Action in Africa as its first teacher for the Kindergarten. She had left school early because she lacked the money to continue; her dream was to return to complete Form 3 so she could qualify to join the police. Working with the little ones in the Kindergarten, however, gave Paulina other ideas. When she applied to AiA for financial assistance with her own education we were delighted to accept her.

Paulina returned to school, finished her course and went on to university and has now finished with a good degree in Education. She will now go on with her career.

Paulina has shown determination and has not allowed a series of problems to hold her back.

Action in Africa is proud of the part we have played to help her to achieve her ambitions and to bring a new, dedicated teacher to the service of Tanzania.
